The B class was introduced to haul main line coal trains. This kit does not cover the first batch of 15 of 1888/9, however a further 10 were delivered in 1990 and these were 8” longer and can be built from the kit.
Subsequently a further 42 were built with increased water and bunker capacity from 3 different Builders and with varying footplate lengths and were designated B1.
Upon absorption by the GWR in 1923, most if not all the class were modified. Two of the class were fitted with high dome cabs etc. but are not covered in this kit.
The modeller is recommended to find a picture of a particular and model that. Information is available at Barry B/B1 Class Instructions
